Travelling. That topic very close to my heart and also a thing I haven't spared enough time or money for lately. A thing I haven't been able to do as much as I used to. Or at least it feels like that. I'd say I started calling myself a traveller around the age of 16 - that's when me and my best friend went for our first trip together. We went to England and it was exciting. Ever since I spent every summer abroad and every summer felt like the best summer of my life so far. Then came my gap...

Better late than never, huh? I was meant to write this post ages ago but never got around to do it. As you know, I spent most of my Christmas holidays in Finland. I stopped in Vantaa, spent a couple of days near Salo, and continued to Turku to visit my little sister. She moved from home to study in uni last autumn and I obviously had to go and check out her new flat, and get to know her new home town a bit better. Parempi myöhään kuin ei milloinkaan, eikö? Tarkoituksena oli kirjoittaa tämä...

Brexit. The word that everyone has heard and seen about billion times. The topic that comes up in lectures pretty much weekly, is in the headlines every day with May doing this and EU saying that, and is something I get asked about a lot. How is Brexit going to affect you? How is it going to affect your studies? Are you still going to stay in Scotland? The honest answer to most of the time is 'I don't know'. Brexit. Tuo sana, jonka jokainen on kuullut ja nähnyt about biljoona kertaa. Aihe,...

I have nothing much to say about these photos from these stunning views in Lapland, so I decided to just post them without further explanations. Maybe they'll work as travel inspiration to someone, maybe they'll be just pretty to look at. I've seen other bloggers post "postcards" from all over the world, so why not me as well. Me and my sister did a trip up north when I was visiting Finland over Christmas, and well, isn't my country just stunning? Minulla ei ole juurikaan sanottavaa näistä...

I started this series of post ages ago when I moved to Scotland and I thought now would be a perfect time to bring it back. New year, same old me, and no new year's resolutions, but I still promised myself to try and get back to blogging again, so why not to post this kind of stuff again as well! I wrote a room tour post last year and after that I've moved flats and I'm now living in a four bedroom flat with three flatmates. It's an old flat and freezing cold right now it being winter, but...

I've been extremely inactive here the past however many months. I'm not going to apologize for it, but decided to sit down with my laptop and type out something quick before I have to head to the airport. My flight to Finland leaves in about six hours time and I'm all packed and ready to go, so why not to spend this spare moment doing something I like but haven't had time or energy to do lately? Olen ollut tosi epäaktiivinen täällä viimeisen en edes tiedä kuinka monta kuukautta. En aio pyydellä...

I was mindlessly going through the feed of my Facebook page when I came across a blog post after blog post talking about money. More precisely, money that goes to food. Numerous Finnish bloggers living abroad have shared their weekly food budgets, and the contents of their shopping bags with the public, and I decided to do the same from the view point of a student living in Scotland. I've also written a post about the general costs of living in Edinburgh and you can find it here - would you be...

Edinburgh castle is probably one of the most well-known landmarks of Edinburgh dominating the skyline of the town no matter which direction you're looking from. This castle has existed since 12th century, and has served both as a royal residence and a military settlement, as well as a prison. Nowadays it's a popular tourist destination and for example the Scottish Crown Jewels are kept in there. Edinbrughin linna on varmaan yksi tunnetuimmista maamerkeistä Edinburghissa ja se dominoikin...

I have been extremely busy with pressing deadlines (the second year is definitely more demanding than the first year, and I'm already afraid of the amount of work I'll face on third year), my mum and my cousin visiting me, frisbee trainings and tournaments taking up loads of time, and job hunting proving to be more time consuming than I thought it would be (but at least it paid off and I'll start working in a pub next week). I haven't had much time to sit on my laptop, not even talking about...

I've been living in Scotland for a year and a bit and every now and then I stop thinking how much it has changed me already. It's nothing groundbreaking, and maybe it's not even a big deal, we all change all the time, but sometimes I realise "I wouldn't have done this a year ago". So, here are 11 signs that tell you you're becoming Scottish. But first a disclaimer: this is meant to be a somewhat humorous post based on my own observations. Don't take it too literally. I'm sure some of these...

I was hanging my laundry on a laundry rack the other night in our hallway when I noticed that I was smiling there on my own for no apparent reason. "Well, that's weird" I thought and started wondering, why so? Why am I smiling hanging my laundry? Why do I feel this happy doing this simple task that is boring but oh so necessary part of being a proper grown up? Maybe it's because I like doing laundry. Maybe it's because I like our flat so much. Maybe it's because I've fallen in love with...

I spent most of my summer in continental Europe and got to travel around quite a bit. One of my destinations was this charming university town called Tübingen in Germany where I visited my dear friend I hadn't seen for ages. We spent a few days chatting about this and that and everything, watching multiple movies from Netflix while trying out several local white wines and eating more than enough chocolate for one week. Vietin suurimman osan kesästäni manner-Euroopassa ja pääsin matkustelemaan...

It's early September. I'm sitting in our kitchen, sipping my second cup of coffee for today - instant with a dash of organic semi-skimmed milk (the organic part is worth of mentioning as I usually never buy organic milk it being more expensive. Semi-skimmed then is the only type of milk I drink here). I've lived in Edinburgh for exactly a year and one day, I've fallen in love with the town, I've made so many friends, and I'm still more than happy to call it my home. Syyskuun alku. Istun...

As you already know, I spent a couple of days in Zürich a couple of weeks ago. As I didn't have enough money or time to go for a proper hike somewhere more rural, I decide to go for the second best option and headed towards a mountain called Uetliberg on my last day in the town. The mountain locates right next to the city, and you can make your way to the beginning of the walking paths from the town centre in half an hour - either on foot or by tram. Kuten jo tiedättekin, vietin pari päivää...

I am back in Edinburgh now, all moved in in to our new flat and writing this in my very own study. I love it. I also loved the country number 24: Switzerland. I've done more travelling this year than I expected but Switzerland was the first new country that I was able to tick off on my list. I spent two nights and two and half days in Zürich last week and it was totally worth it. Olen palannut Edinburghiin ja ehtinyt jo muuttamaan uuteen asuntoommekin ja kirjoittelen tätä omassa työhuoneessani,...
