I was mindlessly going through the feed of my Facebook page when I came across a blog post after blog post talking about money. More precisely, money that goes to food. Numerous Finnish bloggers living abroad have shared their weekly food budgets, and the contents of their shopping bags with the public, and I decided to do the same from the view point of a student living in Scotland. I've also written a post about the general costs of living in Edinburgh and you can find it here - would you be...

Edinburgh castle is probably one of the most well-known landmarks of Edinburgh dominating the skyline of the town no matter which direction you're looking from. This castle has existed since 12th century, and has served both as a royal residence and a military settlement, as well as a prison. Nowadays it's a popular tourist destination and for example the Scottish Crown Jewels are kept in there. Edinbrughin linna on varmaan yksi tunnetuimmista maamerkeistä Edinburghissa ja se dominoikin...

I have been extremely busy with pressing deadlines (the second year is definitely more demanding than the first year, and I'm already afraid of the amount of work I'll face on third year), my mum and my cousin visiting me, frisbee trainings and tournaments taking up loads of time, and job hunting proving to be more time consuming than I thought it would be (but at least it paid off and I'll start working in a pub next week). I haven't had much time to sit on my laptop, not even talking about...

I've been living in Scotland for a year and a bit and every now and then I stop thinking how much it has changed me already. It's nothing groundbreaking, and maybe it's not even a big deal, we all change all the time, but sometimes I realise "I wouldn't have done this a year ago". So, here are 11 signs that tell you you're becoming Scottish. But first a disclaimer: this is meant to be a somewhat humorous post based on my own observations. Don't take it too literally. I'm sure some of these...

I was hanging my laundry on a laundry rack the other night in our hallway when I noticed that I was smiling there on my own for no apparent reason. "Well, that's weird" I thought and started wondering, why so? Why am I smiling hanging my laundry? Why do I feel this happy doing this simple task that is boring but oh so necessary part of being a proper grown up? Maybe it's because I like doing laundry. Maybe it's because I like our flat so much. Maybe it's because I've fallen in love with...

I spent most of my summer in continental Europe and got to travel around quite a bit. One of my destinations was this charming university town called Tübingen in Germany where I visited my dear friend I hadn't seen for ages. We spent a few days chatting about this and that and everything, watching multiple movies from Netflix while trying out several local white wines and eating more than enough chocolate for one week. Vietin suurimman osan kesästäni manner-Euroopassa ja pääsin matkustelemaan...

It's early September. I'm sitting in our kitchen, sipping my second cup of coffee for today - instant with a dash of organic semi-skimmed milk (the organic part is worth of mentioning as I usually never buy organic milk it being more expensive. Semi-skimmed then is the only type of milk I drink here). I've lived in Edinburgh for exactly a year and one day, I've fallen in love with the town, I've made so many friends, and I'm still more than happy to call it my home. Syyskuun alku. Istun...

As you already know, I spent a couple of days in Zürich a couple of weeks ago. As I didn't have enough money or time to go for a proper hike somewhere more rural, I decide to go for the second best option and headed towards a mountain called Uetliberg on my last day in the town. The mountain locates right next to the city, and you can make your way to the beginning of the walking paths from the town centre in half an hour - either on foot or by tram. Kuten jo tiedättekin, vietin pari päivää...

I am back in Edinburgh now, all moved in in to our new flat and writing this in my very own study. I love it. I also loved the country number 24: Switzerland. I've done more travelling this year than I expected but Switzerland was the first new country that I was able to tick off on my list. I spent two nights and two and half days in Zürich last week and it was totally worth it. Olen palannut Edinburghiin ja ehtinyt jo muuttamaan uuteen asuntoommekin ja kirjoittelen tätä omassa työhuoneessani,...

I just spent one amazing month in this wonderful small country called Luxembourg. Returning to the same places I learnt to be happy again two years ago was better than I expected. Time's been flying and when you're reading this post, I'm on a short visit to Switzerland from where I continue to my friend's place in Germany. I waved goodbyes to my host family that left to Iceland a couple of days ago, packed my bags, and decided it would be time to take a little look back and see what a month in...

Last Friday I woke up after 5am, packed my bags and made myself breakfast and a couple of sandwiches. Hopped on a bus at 7:12am, and headed to the city centre of Luxembourg. Half an hour of waiting, getting on another bus and three hours to Brussels. Lunch time, a cold frappuccino under the burning hot sun and +28 degrees. Next bus to Amsterdam and a train to the central station, finding my friends in a nearby Starbucks. Viime perjantaina heräsin aamulla viideltä, pakkasin laukkuni ja tein...

On 23rd of June Luxembourg celebrated the The Grand Duke's Official Birthday, otherwise known as Luxembourgish national day or the Nationalfeiertag. As that Saturday was a public holiday, the city organised yearly fireworks late on Friday evening, and I obviously had to go and see them. I have to say I'd definitely recommend you to go and take a look if you happen to find yourself in Luxembourg this time of the year - who needs new year's in Sydney when you can have this? 23. kesäkuuta...

The ones who have been following me for a bit longer will know I spent my gap year as an au pair. First stop was Luxembourg in June 2016, followed by Western Australia from late July 2016 onward. It seems like a lifetime ago, but on the other hand I still remember it like yesterday how it felt when I finally had confirmed my arrival with my family and booked my flights to Perth. Becoming an au pair, moving abroad and travelling were my biggest dreams at the time. That graduation summer was the...

Me and my friends just spent a week in London and I already shared some of the best moments here but I also wanted to highlight one of the places we visited: Tate Modern. The day started off lateish, we got a train to London Bridge station, walked through Borough markets, and headed towards Tate Modern while enjoying the views from the south bank. It was Monday morning and even though London is never quiet, the masses of tourists weren't nearly as bad as they could have been. Vietin vähän aikaa...

I'm currently in my cousin's place in Surrey, sorting out my things and mentally preparing myself for the early wake up I'm about to face tomorrow. I'm going to be working as an assistant in a conference again and even though I'm excited about it, waking up at 4am to get to London in time doesn't sound too tempting. Especially after a week long holiday including later and later nights, and later and later mornings with my friends in this very same city. Olen parhaillaan serkkuni luona...
